In the event of adverse weather\, the rain date of May 11th will be used to make up for the practicum portion of the class. Please block off Monday\, May 11th in your calendar in case rescheduling is necessary. \nTickets: $280 Practical Wetland Plant ID – May 2026 Tickets\, Thu\, May 7\, 2026 at 9:00 AM | Eventbrite\nLocations:\nLecture: Clackamas Community College Harmony Campus –7738 SE Harmony Road\, Milwaukie\, Oregon 97222 \nField Practicum: Three Creeks Natural Area adjacent to Clackamas Community College\, Harmony Campus \nProfessional Credit:\nClackamas Community College\, 1.3 CEU (13 PDH\, 13 CEH from LCB)\, Award of Completion will be provided. \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Description:\n2-Day lecture/field experience \nThis intermediate level workshop is designed to equip wetland practitioners with the plant ID skills needed to successfully work in and around wetlands in the Western Mountains\, Valleys\, and Coastal region in western Oregon and Washington. Through the use of simplified vegetative keys and by learning the key identifying features\, students will have confidence to identify the most important plant species in the wetland delineation process. Plant terminology necessary for proper use of identification keys will be covered. The course includes both lecture and field practicum. Note: Be prepared- Field practicum may involve walking off trail or on uneven or slippery surfaces. \nLunch is provided both days. \nInstructor:\nPhil Quarterman PWS (Emeritus) \nPhil has 40+ years of experience as a wetland scientist\, working in local and state government and from 1995-2020 consulting with WHPacific\, Inc. Since then he has continued to be active in part time consulting for Winterbrook Planning and volunteering with The Wetland Conservancy. He has worked on many types of projects delineating and assessing wetlands\, obtaining state and federal permits\, and crafting and implementing wetland mitigation plans. His fieldwork has taken him to diverse wetland types from alkaline wetlands in arid areas of Oregon and Nevada\, to Oregon estuaries\, to the tundra and boreal forests of Alaska. He has been teaching Society of Wetland Scientists certified classes on wetland delineation for the past ten years in locations in Oregon\, Washington and Alaska. \n\n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\nUpon completion of this workshop\, students should be able to: \n\nAccurately identify the most common wetland and riparian plant species in Western Oregon and Washington.\nIdentify selected plant families and genera that commonly occur in wetlands in this region.\nProperly use vegetative keys and basic botanical terminology to identify plants to the family and genus level.\n\nMajor Topics: \n\nObligate\, Facultative Wetland\, Facultative and Facultative Upland plants in the Western Mountains\, Valleys and Coast Region.\nDescriptive Botanical Terminology\nBasic Taxonomy of Wetland Plants\nKey Identifying Features\nUse of Vegetative Keys\nUsing the regional wetland plant list\nField Identification
