Background

The Columbia River Basin Restoration Program (CRBRP) was created in 2016 by an amendment to the Clean Water Act. It was the first legislation to officially recognize the national importance of restoring the Columbia River Basin, one of our nation’s largest watersheds. It authorized the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish the Columbia River Basin Restoration Program Working Group that is representative of states, tribal governments, industry, and other entities.  It also directed EPA to develop the Columbia River Basin Restoration Funding Assistance Program, a voluntary, competitive grants program for environmental protection and restoration programs throughout the Basin.

The CRBRP Toxics Monitoring Subgroup grew out of a desire for more focused discussion and coordination among toxics monitoring projects. The goals of the subgroup are to provide a forum to exchange toxics monitoring information, discuss challenges, and coordinate monitoring activities, as well as to advance recommendations from the 2010 Columbia River Toxics Reduction Action Plan.

Columbia River Basin Toxics Monitoring Project Tracking Matrix

The Columbia River Basin Toxics Monitoring Project Tracking Matrix is intended to advance the broad understanding of toxics monitoring efforts in the Columbia River Basin (who’s doing what, where, when, and how), help facilitate coordination and collaboration among toxics monitoring projects, and assist with identifying information gaps. The development of the matrix was a collaborative effort among CRBRP grantees and the Toxics Monitoring Subgroup (TMS) Core Team. It’s primarily intended as a reference for TMS members and other entities working to assess, reduce, and/or clean up toxics in the watershed. Access the matrix here.
