BLM seeks Biological Science Fisheries Techs (Corvallis and North Bend, OR)

Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) GS5 (crew member) and GS 6 (crew leader)

Biological Science Technician (Natural Resource Technician) GS5 (crew member) and GS 6 (crew leader)

Hydrologic Science Technician GS 5 (crew member) and GS 6 (crew leader).

The GS-6 positions require 12 months of experience at the GS-5 level.  In general, BLM only hires crew leaders at the GS 6 level but do make exceptions when applicants have experience conducting similar surveys to AREMP either with PIBO, AIM, ODFW AQS, etc.

There are different qualifications for Hydrologic Technician, Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) Biological Science Technician (Natural Resource Technician) position descriptions.  Take some time to review the qualifications to see which one(s) you will qualify for; BLM uses both positions to fill crew leader and crew member positions and utilize these different listings to get a wider applicant pool.

Duties:

  • Biological Science Technicians (Fish) assist in planning and conduct aquatic and riparian inventories and studies as well as plan and conduct fish population studies.
  • Riparian studies may be conducted on wetland areas and along stream corridors and may include species inventory and condition assessments.
  • Incumbent will also analyze inventory or study data; prepare data for inclusion in study reports; and make recommendations for aquatic and riparian enhancement projects or improvements in survey techniques and evaluation methods.
  • Other duties may include work from an outline; check extensive data in the field of fish habitat condition (stream or lake); record results; make census counts of various species or record observations, on species condition or stream surveys.
  • Biological Science Technicians (Fish) assist in planning and conduct simple water quality samplings of streams and lakes and assist in construction or placement of habitat improvement structures, fences, gabions, trash catchers, etc.
