About the Pacific Fishery Management Council:
The Regional Fishery Management Council (RFMC) system was established by the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA). The MSA established a system of eight RFMCs that are charged with managing fisheries in a manner consistent with the standards contained within the MSA, as well as other applicable law. As one of eight Councils, the Pacific Council develops management for fisheries off the west coast of the United States, including groundfish, salmon, highly migratory species, and coastal pelagic species. The Pacific Council has also developed a Fishery Ecosystem Plan, and engages in other matters that concern fisheries, such as habitat issues, offshore wind energy development, and offshore aquaculture.
Pacific Council staff supports the effective decision-making of the Pacific Council by convening meetings in a transparent public process; providing scientific, socio-economic, and policy analyses which assist members of the Pacific Council in understanding implications of their decisions; helping to facilitate deliberations of committees and the Council; and providing administrative support to Pacific Council members and advisors. To achieve these ends, the Pacific Council staff work closely with several partner agencies that include State Fish and Wildlife agencies, various Federal agencies, Tribal commissions, international commissions, and members of the public.
Organizational Culture:
At the Pacific Council office, we embrace key principles of respect, integrity, curiosity, and passion for our material. We work hard to achieve excellence, and we achieve our high standards by working together in a supportive and fun work environment that celebrates our successes. We expect all staff to uphold our core principles and help to cultivate an environment that is collaborative, supportive, transparent, and fun.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Staff Officer to join our team in Portland, OR. This position will play a key role in issues related to endangered species, marine mammals, seabirds, and the rebuilding of overfished stocks. This involves the conceptualization of a problem, collaborating with diverse teams to develop a range of solutions to that problem, communicating the results of complex analysis to decision-makers, and performing various administrative functions necessary for implementing decisions made by the Council. You will be expected to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Your work will directly impact the fisheries and marine resources of the West Coast and the success of the Council.
